Benefits of Health Coaching
That thing that you know you should be able to do. . .you know it’s good for you. . .you did it for a bit a few times but success seems to elude you. . .well, we all struggle to make changes that we wanted to make. Working with a health coach can help you overcome those barriers and find lasting change. A recent study found that people who worked with health coaches achieved meaningful improvement in:
blood pressure
body weight
glucose
cholesterol
cardiovascular fitness
What is a Health Coach?
A health coach is an expert in behavioral change and wellness. They work as your personal wellness guide and accountability partner. They get to know you, your goals, and your challenges to help you make incremental healthy, sustainable changes in your life. They support you through the change process, helping you overcome challenges and inertia that can keep you stuck. If you’re struggling to make changes on your own, a health coach can help you get unstuck and make sure your new habits get firmly established.
How Does Health Coaching Work?
I meet with my health coaching clients fairly regularly, usually three or four times a month. In these conversations, we’ll talk about your goals, your challenges, your habits, and your motivators. We’ll work together to plan a reasonable path forward, make adjustments as we go, and keep you on track.
We can talk on the phone, meet in a video conference, or meet in person–whatever works best for you. We can meet at a coffee shop or take a walk together. I’m happy to meet you anywhere within a 30-mile radius of downtown Kansas City.
What Does a Health Coach Help With?
I work with a wide range of clients. Some are folks who just want to lose a little weight, some are just trying to eat a bit healthier, some are learning to deal with food sensitivities, some are endurance athletes looking to fine-tune their performance, and some are battling long-term, complicated health challenges. More generally, a health coach can help with issues like:
Nutrition
Stress
Sleep
Self-image
Exercise
Health Coaching Qualifications
I’ve coached for four years and am board-certified health coach (NBC-HWC), and have been a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) for a decade. I’m a former couch potato who found so much joy in movement that I ran 50 miles to celebrate my 50th birthday. When I’m not working, cooking, or hanging with my partner and pets, you’ll usually find me at the gym or on the trails of Kansas City.
